The mountain Sasso Piatto, Alpe di Siusi, South Tyrol
Every person who considers the Sasso Piatto from the Alpe di Siusi says immediately that you can´t find a more suitable name for this mountain. A huge and inclined platform - like a triangle - makes the mountain distinctive in its appearance. Together with the Sasso Lungo he is located west of the Sasso-Group. They are one of the most important mountain groups of the Alpe di Siusi, if not even of the whole South Tyrol.
The German name of the Sasso Piatto is “Plattkofel”. The height of Sasso Piatto 2,955 meters above sea level.
The hut of Sasso Piatto
You can reach the hut of Sasso Piatto (in German: Plattkofelhütte, in Italian: Rifugio Sasso Piatto) in the southeast of the mountain. From this hut and the refuge you can hike on the "plate" of the mountain directly to the summit cross. From the summit cross you can enjoy the possibility of a magnificent panoramic look to the Sella and the Marmolada.
Even the climb to the summit cross at the top of the mountain allows a wonderful view to the Alpe di Siusi, especially in a southwesterly direction to the Denti di Terrarossa and the mountain Sciliar that is located at the west side.
The Sasso Piatto and the Sasso Lungo can be completely rounded by hiking on the Friedrich-August-path.
